The Supreme Court has allowed veteran journalist Maria Ressa to travel abroad from June 4 to 29, 2023, for several speaking engagements.

In a Resolution in the case of Ressa and Santos, Jr. v. People (G.R. No. 263584) dated May 29, 2023, the Court’s First Division resolved to grant the Seventh Motion for Permission to Travel Abroad of petitioner Ressa, subject to certain conditions.

Petitioner, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Rappler, is ordered to observe the sub judice rule and to refrain from making any comment on or discussing in public her case and other related matters.

The Court also said that petitioner shall travel on the cash bond of P100,000 she previously posted pursuant to an earlier Resolution of the Court.

Furthermore, petitioner is required to transmit to the Court an advice in writing of her return to the country within five days from her arrival.

Petitioner Ressa will travel to Italy, Singapore, the United States of America, and Taiwan.

In all, the Court has granted petitioner’s seven motions for travel abroad to visit 14 countries.
